Friends of Stonecroft

April 2023

Helen Duff Baugh, the founder of Stonecroft, felt certain about many things, including how God wanted her and others to reach women all over the country. Now, the organization begins its 85th year of ministry this month, something Helen may never have imagined.

She writes in her book The Story Goes On, “[There were] tall stone pillars at the entrance to our property and the lovely drive bordered by tall, stately black walnut trees. Carved into one of the stone pillars was the word STONECROFT. When we enquired about this, we learned that our house had been built by a Scottish family named Abernathy. As is the custom of British families, they named their estate. The word ‘croft’ in the Scottish language means ‘home’ so they named their stone home STONECROFT.”

Helen continued, “That sounded like such a good strong word to us that we decided to keep it.” Creating welcoming spaces for women to gather, ask their questions and find community, just like the one you are at today, is at the heart of all of Stonecroft’s work. Whether it’s a small group in someone’s living room or a larger event like this one, Helen and the many women who joined her knew that the idea of a welcoming home, a good meal and conversation was a place where anyone would feel seen and heard.

Your gift to Stonecroft today helps continue 85 years of inviting spaces for women to be cared for. It’s a vision thousands have caught and translated, not just in the country, but in other countries, too. When you give to Stonecroft, you help women…

  • Experience the joy of discovering their extraordinary purpose and calling.
  • Belong to a community of women committed to making a difference together.
  • Receive the training and resources needed to become life-changers and influencers in their families and communities.
