Prayer Connection February 2024

Prepare for Prayer – Our focus is “Praying our way to Easter.”

You can find accompanying materials in our Lent season theme resource: Connecting with God: A Guide to Prayer. This resource is available at christianbook.com and amazon.com.

Lent is a time of preparing ourselves for celebrating Easter. Just as it is hard to enjoy a feast if you arrive full, so it can be difficult to fully appreciate God’s gift through Jesus unless we take some time to prepare our hearts and minds. And, as each woman involved in Stonecroft is not only a witness, but a woman God dearly loves, I pray that February and March will fill you to overflowing. We will go through the eight weeks of this resource—Connecting with God—to renew ourselves in prayer. If you gather just once to pray this month, you might take each topic in turn and then close with praying for your outreach, witness, community, and one another. But perhaps God will lead you to pray weekly during Lent. You are always welcome to join us each week for prayer https://stonecroft-org.zoom.us/j/847270680.

February 1-7 – The Purpose of Prayer Read: Matthew 6:9-13, NLT

Pray: God, we ask you to grow a hunger for prayer in us as Jesus hungered for prayer. Help us think of prayer as communication, connection, and drawing close in a not complicated way.

Prayer Points:

God, help us always pray…remembering to return to prayer when we wander.

God, thank you for wanting to be connected to us and keep that connection strong.

God, thank you that we can pray simple prayers and that we can pray the words of Jesus:

For additional prayer and meditation, you might want to look up Mark 1:35 (Page 762 in Tyndale’s NLT Abundant Life Bible, available at christianbook.com), Matthew 14:23 (746), Luke 6:12-13 (786), Luke 9:15-16 (790), Mark 14:32-36 (775)

February 8-14 – God’s Power in Prayer

“The power of the prayer does not depend on the one who makes the prayer, but on the one who hears the prayer.” – Max Lucado

Read: John 14:13-14 (Page 823 in Tyndale’s NLT Abundant Life Bible, available at christianbook.com). Additional verses to consider: Mark 11:22 (Page 772). Jeremiah 10:12 (Page 581), Matthew 19:26 (Page 750), Psalms 62:11 (Page 440), 1 Chronicles 29:11 (Page 332).

Prepare for Prayer – Our focus is “Praying our way to Easter.”

Pray: Thank you, God, that Your power is unlimited! Your love is unlimited! Thank You that we can stay close and intimately connected with You through prayer and that being connected to You is an incredible way to live.

Prayer Points:

For us to trust in Your name, knowing it’s not in our name or abilities we trust, but in Jesus’.

For us to give You those things we have trouble believing and open our hands to You in faith.

For us to grasp the power of You, God, and all You can do.

God, thank you for opening the lines of communication with me. Thank you that “the earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results” (James 5:16, Page 932).

February 15-21 – Elements of Prayer: Worship, Praise, and Giving Thanks

Read: Psalms 63:3-5 (Page 441). Additional verses: Romans 15:5, 13 (Page 868), 1 Corinthians

1:9 (Page 870), 2 Corinthians 1:3 (Page 882), 1 John 4:8 (Page 943). Psalms 100 (Page 459),

Ephesians 5:20 (Page 898).

Pray: Father, thank you for making me aware of where I fall short and am askew from your glorious design for me and my life. Thank you for hearing—and welcoming my confession. Thank you, too, for inviting me to ask! And for allowing me the privilege of praying— interceding—for others. What gifts You give and lavish on me.
