Towel Service
Pause and Reflect: Recall a time in your life when you were surprised by someone’s unexpected act of service to you. How did this make you feel? Sit with God and begin to thank Him for the many ways He has met your needs in unexpected ways and through unexpected people.
Scripture: “Jesus knew that the Father had given him authority over everything and that he had come from God and would return to God. So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him”… “And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. I have given you an example to follow. Do as I have done to you.” John 13: 3-5; 14-15 NLT
Scriptural Insights: Jesus, creator of the earth, Royal, heavenly King, dons a towel and bends down in great humility to wash the dirty feet of his disciples. Their beloved teacher and guiding light washes their feet. As a leader, he demonstrated that no one was beneath him to serve, and that everyone was deserving of His love. More importantly, he came to wash the hearts of sinners clean by dying on the cross. Jesus, humble, suffering servant to all, prompted by love, serves. If we are in Christ, then “Towel Service” is one of the greatest ways we display the power of Christ’s love and redemption towards others.
